CORVUS VISIONS BY NICKIE ROBINSON
Welcome to Corvus Visions, my online art studio. I’m Nickie Robinson, a Reno-based artist blending art and science to create work that celebrates the beauty of human anatomy. Through watercolor, acrylic and charcoal, I strive to explore ways to bridge form, feeling and healing through evocative imagery. I’m asked frequently, “What does Corvus Visions mean?” Here’s it’s origin:
Corvus - Latin for raven; genus of birds in the family Corvidae including species known as crows, ravens, jays, magpies; a small constellation in the Southern Celestial Hemisphere depicting a raven, a bird associated with stories of the gods Apollo and Odin.
Visions - the faculty or state of being able to see, the ability to think about the future with imagination and wisdom, to imagine.
I’ve had a strong affinity for corvids for as long as I can remember. They are highly intelligent, resourceful, fearless and down right cheeky birds. They also have some of the more profound roles in mythology (e.g. Huginn and Muninn) that give them heavyweight status in the animal kingdom.
Every year blue jays return to my home during their migration. They always make me laugh and smile at their weird incessant little ways (and sometimes not so nice ways) of acquiring attention from myself or my dogs.
All of my paintings start with a mind’s flash. I “see” it in my head long before my brush ever makes contact with canvas or paper. It hits me like a vision. And it persists like a loquacious corvid demanding attention until it’s satisfied that the need to be seen and heard has been met.
And so, I call my artwork Corvus Visions.
